Learn to transform a rough piece of wood into a professionally crafted picture frame!

This class covers the entire process, from milling lumber to final assembly, teaching you essential woodworking techniques along the way. You’ll leave with a beautiful, handmade frame perfect for your favorite art or as a thoughtful, custom gift. Join this supportive beginner-friendly workshop, expand your handy DIY skillset, and connect with a community of fellow makers!

What You’ll Make:

  • A custom hardwood picture frame, designed to hold a standard 8" x 10" picture or piece of artwork, complete with acrylic panel, backing, and hanging hardware.

Skills & Concepts You’ll Learn:

  • Essential woodshop safety

  • Conversation on hardwood selection and milling

  • Cutting rabbets

  • Creating clean, precise 45-degree mitered corners

  • Sanding techniques for a smooth, professional finish

  • Safely cutting acrylic and back panels

  • Final assembly, applying finish, and installing hanging hardware

Equipment & Tools You’ll Learn:

  • Table Saw, Router Table, Glazier Point Gun, and various hand tools.

Class Outline:

  1. Introduction & Prep: Project overview, safety, and a demonstration of cutting rabbets and miters.

  2. Hands-On Practice: Students will cut the components for their frames and glue them up with instructor guidance.

  3. Assembly & Finishing: Following a 30 minute break for the glue to dry, the instructor will demonstrate cutting panels, installing hardware, sanding and spray on finish. With instruction guidance, students will then complete their frames.

  4. Wrap-Up: Review of the process and Q&A

  • Class Capacity: 8 maximum, 3 minimum

  • Materials Provided?: Yes

  • Age Limit: 16+. Guardian required if under 18

  • Partner Ticket Available?: Yes

  • Clothing/Equipment Requirements?: Comfortable well fitted clothing, close-toed shoes, put your hair up, and be prepared to get a little dirty.
