“Which saw should I use to make a straight vs curved cut? Why are there so many shapes of a sander?”

This workshop covers the most common Tool Library lending power tools, giving you the skills to build, repair, and create with confidence. You’ll learn how to choose the right tools for your project and use them safely and effectively. You’ll get hand-on experience with guidance from our experienced instructors. Join this supportive beginner-friendly class, expand your handy DIY skillset, and connect with a community of fellow makers!

Skills & Concepts You’ll Learn:

  • Learn how to choose the right tools for your project.

  • Understand the essential do's and don'ts for common power tools. 

  • Gain hands-on experience with setup, handling, and basic techniques.

Equipment & Tools You’ll Learn:

  • Circular saw, jig saw, miter saw, reciprocating saw, angle grinder, multi-tool, compressor, nailer, router, drill, and sanders. 

Class Outline:

  1. Introduction & Safety Overview: Tool safety basics and when to use which tool

  2. Demonstration: Instructor shows proper handling and technique for each tool

  3. Hands-On Practice: Students operate tools with supervision and guidance

  4. Wrap-Up: Review and Q&A

  • Prerequisites: None. No Experience Required.

  • Class Capacity: 8 maximum, 4 minimum

  • Materials Provided?: Yes

  • Age Limit: 13+. Guardian required if under 18

  • Partner Ticket Available?: No

  • Clothing/Equipment Requirements?: Comfortable well fitted clothing, close-toed shoes, put your hair up, and be prepared to get a little dirty.
