Ordinary Spokes is a community bike co-op located in St. John’s NL. We are a collectively run, D.I.Y. organization with a mandate to increase access to affordable transportation for everyone.
How it works:
Come by with your bike. We have the tools and parts and will work with you to fix, tune-up, or repair your bike.
We ask for a $5 stand fee donation, and that you cover the cost of any replacement parts put on your bike.
We are open at 151 Empire Ave. from 530pm-830 pm every Thursday.
We are an LGBTQ2S+ friendly space.
briefly, our purposes are:
To support the use of cycling as a mode of transportation, and as part of an active lifestyle that minimizes environmental impact;
- To operate and maintain a community bike shop for public use that is a safer and LGBTQ2S+ friendly space;
- To operate a bike recycling program to provide affordable bikes to the community of St. John’s;
- To promote bike culture, the organization of community building initiatives, events to connect fellow cyclists, and the maintenance of a social space;
- To provide education about bike mechanics, bike safety, and bikes as tools for radical social change.
Building Bike Culture
We refurbish used bikes for (cheap) resale built with love by our volunteer mechanics. Our DIY repair shop is located at 151 Empire Avenue, where we sell completed bikes by suggested donation. Volunteers who want to learn mechanic skills can drop in to help refurbish bikes.
We are a community-oriented and community-supported initiative. We would be nowhere without the continuing support from our friends, the fine citizens of St John’s & the small business community.
